Vertical Integration Accelerates Speed to Market

The Challenge
A strategic customer approached Donatelle™ with the need for help in developing and manufacturing a medical surgical device. The project scope was to develop two products that would be easier to use than other models that existed on the market, as well as to eliminate product failure modes -- all within a shortened lead time.

Course of Action
During the development phase, multiple material options were recommended to our customer for prototyping. Prototype tools were built within ten (10) days, and the product design was optimized through various revisions to the prototype tools. This dramatically saved time and expense on production tooling. Weekly face-to-face project team meetings allowed both companies to interact and update one another on key project tasks. Donatelle ultimately became a manufacturing extension of our customer's project team.

The Result
Success! The time from development through full validation with production launch quantities available for our customer was approximately six months. The project launched on time, fulfilling the accelerated project kickoff plan. Being vertically integrated and located within one facility allowed Donatelle a more efficient use of resources while reducing decision-making time. Finally, the doctor to first use the device stated he "absolutely loves it."
